Frances McDormand…You Have Interesting Tony Award Style, My Friend…

So far, we’ve been raving about the 65th Annual Tony Awards last night.  Neil Patrick Harris was a hell of a host, and “The Book of Mormon” and “War Horse” took home the top prizes.  However, there was one awkward moment that still have people talking.

Frances McDormand, winner of Best Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role in a Play for “Good People”, and one of the most respected actresses in film and stage, made her way to the stage to get her award not in a flowing gown, but a red and black afternoon dress and jean jacket.  Her glasses were off, as was her makeup, and her hair was down.

McDormand’s speech was genuine and heartfelt, thanking her entire company, saying

“We all believe that [‘Good People’] is an American classic, with a classic American hero, Maggie Walsh, the character that I played. I really sincerely thank you for this, because I love my job. I love my job…I believe that young actors will grow up to one day play this role.”

But with that, the question is…if you are a guest and nominee at one of the most respected art award shows in the country…is a dress that seems like it belongs more at a backyard barbecue acceptable?  You tell us.
