It went unseen for nine years… but former Bee Gee singer Barry Gibb has suddenly released a teaser video of a collaboration between him and Michael Jackson.  Gibb uploaded a brief video online, showing him and Jackson singing a son entitled “All In Your Name.”

Barry wrote on his website: “Michael Jackson and I were the dearest of friends, that’s simply what it was. We gravitated towards the same kind of music and we loved collaborating and he was the easiest person to write with. The more we got to know each other the more those ideas entwined and it all came to this song ‘All in Your Name’ … All in Your Name’ is in fact the message that Michael wanted to send out to all of his fans all over the World that he did it all for them and for the pure love of music. I hope and pray that we all get to hear it in its entirety. This experience I will treasure forever.”

Gibb, who is new to twitter just this month, (despite having at least one Twitter imposter… which begs the question…who decided to impersonate Barry Gibb on Twitter?) said online that as “soon as it is possible you will hear the whole song.”

The video teaser is below. The big question here, of course, is would Michael have wanted it this way?” This video, and the collaboration itself, took place in 2002. Seven years had passed before Jackson died in 2008, giving them both ample opportunity to refine the tracks and release the song. It could be that the right opportunity never arose, that Michael wasn’t able to find the time, or that, in fact, this was simply a fun jam session between two people. (This video was shot in Miami, but Barry’s son.)

The song, according to Barry, is a tribute to his fans, with the idea that he lived his life with a love for music, and created it all for his followers. But one newspaper is reporting that it was written in protest of the Iraq war. Given that the song is “All In Your Name.” I’m inclined to go with the Fan idea. But who knows.

One thing is for sure, Michael Jackson was a perfectionist, and it’s likely that there is at least some aspect of the eventually released song that he would have changed. Would he be happy with the production value? His vocal track? We’ll never know.

Do you think Michael would want it this way?
