Yet another Broadway favorite is closing it’s doors.

According to MSNBC, Producers of “Billy Elliot” announced yesterday that the Tony Award-winning show will play its final performance on January 8.

That date will end more than a three-year, 1,304 performance run at the Imperial Theatre on 45th Street.

The musical, based on the popular 2000 movie about a young boy who longs to dance ballet, started off on London stages, but quickly made its way to the streets of New York.  Producers estimate that the show has been seen by 1,659,867 theatergoers to date.

The musical won the 2009 Tony Award for best musical as well as nine other Tonys. Fans will still be able to see the show in London’s West End, where it is currently playing its seventh year, and on tour across America.

  • Just saw this show and it is AMAZING. We actually got to see two Billy’s (as the first was injured just before intermission) Great to see different interpretations of the role in one performance. Go see this play before it closes!!
