M.I.A. Decides to Flip Off the Entire World At the Super Bowl

M.I.A., a British rapper best known in the U.S. for 2007's "Paper Planes", decided to accent the end of her lines by giving the middle finger to the camera and in turn, every single person watching the Superbowl.

I have to give Madonna credit…she really tried to throw her all into that SuperBowl Halftime show. (Whether it was good or bad, that’s up to you.)  Even Nicki Minaj and L.M.F.A.O. despite not being anywhere near the main attraction, showed up and made great supporting players.

And then, there was M.I.A.

M.I.A., a British rapper best known in the U.S. for 2007’s “Paper Planes”, decided to accent the end of her lines (which finish with “I don’t give a (expletive),”) by giving the middle finger to the camera and in turn, every single person watching the Superbowl.

The control room tried to catch the moment with a blur, however ended up missing it by less than a second.  NBC spokesman Christopher McCloskey already released a statement, saying:

“We apologize for the inappropriate gesture that aired during halftime…It was a spontaneous gesture that our delay system caught late.”

I find it very amusing that right when the Halftime show decides to start loosening up a bit (going from all those safe, “classic” shows to Black Eyed Peas and a few rappers with Madonna), the least popular of anybody on the stage decides it would be a good idea to flip off the world.  Did nobody clue her into that probably being a bad idea?  No one played back the Janet Jackson tape?

Eh well.  Next year, just be prepared to have the Superbowl Halftime Show be led by the Pennsylvania Amish house band, with a guest appearance by Lyle Lovett.
