Congratulations to Ms. Ellen DeGeneres she will be this years recipient of the nations top humor prize.

The Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts announced yesterday that DeGeneres will receive the 15th annual Mark Twain Prize for American Humor.

DeGeneres took the announcement in a way that only she can, asking in a written statement, “why didnt I get this sooner?

DeGeneres will receive the award on October 22nd, with a lineup of star performers in a tribute show that will be recorded for broadcast at a later date. Past honorees include Bill Cosby, Tina Fey and Will Ferrell.

15 years ago, DeGeneres broke boundaries when she came out on Time magazines cover and became the first sitcom character ever to come out on her show. However, the loss of fans and backlash from the public caused ABC to cancel “Ellenafter another year.

DeGeneres bounced back, however, with numerous movie roles, including arguably her most famous, as the voice of Dory in FINDING NEMO.  Her talk show is now in its ninth season.
