“In the beginning where it was only myself in my own bedroom, it was definitely more minimal and later we were only my friend Daniel and I in his studio with our collection of vintage keyboards, a drum kit and his computer it was more mixed with some drum loops and computer stuff whereas now there is no looping or midi-instruments at all. It is actually a dogma for the new album: no loops, no midi!” she said via e-mail. “The songwriting process is a very intuitive process for me, that i like to pursue in loneliness. I write best when I can let the thoughts flow. It’s usually the sort of thing where I take off in something very near and real and then I weave my imagination into the equation and go to a more abstract place that doesn’t have to have a connection to something in real life. I like that mix. My favorite keyboard is the small Casio SK-1 that I sample my voice into and play with the right hand during my live shows! “

“I think there are stories all the time, living a life like this. It is really a great trip with all it’s ups and downs. One of the best things about a life like this is that I know some amazing people because of music, through music, etc. Some of my dearest, closest friends I’ve met through music and a lot of the people I admire mostly on an artistic level I met through my life as a touring musician. That is a gift and I feel lucky because of knowing them. Especially I’m in awe of Joe Magistro (producer/drummer) and Sara Lee (bass), who I worked with closely for my new album. They rock my world! Also the other members of my band Carsten Skov (vibraphone) and Daniel Fridell (keyboards) inspire me a lot, with their amazing musicianship and natural feel for sonic beauty.”

Life is nothing but a series of individual discoveries. “I think there are stories all the time, living a life like this,” she said. “It is really a great trip with all it’s ups and downs. I love listening to music that is pretty far away from what I do, like: Neil Young, The Rolling Stones, The Kinks, Bob Dylan. I get nostalgic for music from before my own time because the bands were so GOOD! They played together. In a room. Real music. I’m just very much liking that for when I listen to music.”
