French tourist Jean Vivier captures a rare, vintage look around a colorful New York City in 1939. There’s something about seeing this in color that really strikes you – A reminder that most of the bones of this great city have been around long before we were. (Rockefeller Center had a rink bar equivalent back then too!) It also makes you long for a Manhattan where there’s not a homogenized GAP and Starbucks around every corner.
