It’s actually somewhat surprising that is was Madonna’s first time performing at the Super Bowl this year – given her long career. But it was well-timed. She has a new single out, and one might also argue that she has recently been called to defend her title as the reigning queen of pop – as Lady Gaga continues to solidify her own reputation a music icon. Also interesting to note, it’s the first time that a woman has headlined the halftime show since Janet Jackson’s infamous wardrobe malfunction in 2004. (Can you believe that its been that long?)

But back to the subject at hand. Madonna, who in interviews prior to the big event spoke of how nervous she was about the performance – didn’t appear to be nervous at all on the 50 yard line, the star attraction on an elaborate stage that her team only had seven minutes to set up.

The heavily produced, choreographed, and effect laden show resembled something you might see at the opening ceremonies of an Olympic Games…. or Cirque Du Soleil… or, well… a Madonna concert.

Certainly, always a hot topic online and at water coolers at the office is the subject of lip synching, which Madonna was doing a lot of. (Much like a lot of artists these days, I might add.) But what she also was doing was a LOT of dancing that would have made a live song a little tough. The issue is one that has its supporters and detractors, so that alone will divide the critics from the fans.

Those fans and critics took to the web almost immediately to voice their support – or dissent.

The show opened up with Roman gladiators approaching the stage, and when massive shimmery fabrics unfolded, Madonna revealed herself on a throne – launching into her iconic hit Vogue. Background dancers mirrored her while the stage itself served as an enormous television monitor, changing imagery with each song. She then segued into Hey Mr. DJ  which included a tightrope dancing performer.

The performance took an unexpected turn when she segued into a song from another artist: Sexy and I Know It, with LMFAO on hand to sing their portion. As the stage turned into a staircase, she and a gaggle of cheerleaders launched into Give Me All Your Luvin’, her new single, which features Nicki Minaj and M.I.A.’s appearance. (Again, both on hand for the show.)

Give Me All Your Luvin’ moved into Express Yourself, with a guest appearance from Cee Lo Green, (who will appear on NBC’s second season of The Voice right after the game) before moving into Like A Prayer. As Green and Madonna rose up on an elevated stage, a gospel choir sang the background vocals. An image of the football field under the stage, complete with it’s yardline markers, suddenly folded up like fabric, disappearing under the stage (thanks again to technology that rendered the filed into a massive TV monitor) as she began the first verse.

As the song reached its climax, Madonna walked up to a platform, and as white light and smoke shot into the sky, she quickly descended underneath the stage, vanishing from view.

Suddenly everything – from the people to the massive set – disappeared, revealing only sparkling lights revealing the words “World Peace” to remain.

With that, Madonna was a trending topic on twitter… from radiant reviews to critical pans.

I like Madonna but I don’t belong to the school of “she can do no wrong” like so many fans of pop stars. But I did find it entertaining. I would never turn to Madonna for a stunning live vocal performance – but I would turn to her to be entertained. And I was… more than I have been during many other halftime shows.

Once video becomes available that I can post without getting my arse sued, I will – but in the meantime – let me know what you think… was Madonna’s Super Bowl half time show a hit – or a miss?

In the commercial, a French Bulldog named Mr. Quiggly wins a race against several Greyhounds.
But some activists took issue with greyhound racing being featured in the spot, claiming the sport is exploitive and harmful to the dogs, some even protesting outside a Skechers store in San Diego and other cities over the weekend.

According to Entertainment Weekly Barr said: “I will barnstorm American living rooms… Mainstream media will be unable to ignore me, but more importantly they will be unable to overlook the needs of average Americans in the run-up to the 2012 election.” 

The Green Party convention in Baltimore in July will officially select the nominee.

In what is perhaps a new slogan to hit the political scene, she said on Twitter, via her moniker @therealRoseanne: ”vote for me, I’ll fix this s—! -Barr 2012-”

Barr doesn’t seem to have an illusion about her chances, and has noted that the likely Green Party nominee will be Jill Stein, but says “until then I’ll serve.”

Internet personality Glozell is funny just being Glozell. When she decides, at her fans’ request, to do ‘The Cinnamon Challenge,’ the results venture into pee your pants hysterical.  ‘The Cinnamon Challenge’ is a crazy dare that has become a viral video phenomenon. It involves a person trying to swallow a tablespoon (that’s plenty) of cinnamon without vomiting , exhaling, or inhaling the powder. There are countless videos of people trying to do this, unsuccessfully. (Why, I ask… why?!? This looks and sounds really unpleasant.) 

Whether Glozell, who herself is a viral phenomenon, is fully aware of what to expect from herself in undergoing the cinnamon challenge is hard to say… but either way, her reaction (and excessive dosage) is enough to make you laugh, and glad you’re not her. Don’t be scared – she won’t vomit – but she will certainly provide a visceral reaction. Sure, she’s probably hamming it up. I don’t care. I think it’s hysterical!

According to Entertainment Weekly, a rep for Robert Zemeckis has confirmed that he, along with writer Bob Gale, and composer Alan Silvestri, are “in preliminary creative discussions.”

Don’t get too excited just yet.  The rep says that Zemeckis is still in the post-production period of his new film, FLIGHT, and there will be nothing for a good while.

No word on whether the staged version would include just Part 1, or the entire trilogy.

And if you’re wondering why there hasn’t been any personal notes from me about absolutely loving this idea, whether it’d be horrible or not, just because I’d get to see friggen BACK TO THE FUTURE on a stage, it’s basically because my heart and mind just exploded at the same time as I stood here.

But yes, for the record, I’d be the BTTF equivalent of those kids who go to see HARRY POTTER dressed in a Hogwarts uniform.  Yay.

The video was released on January 31st and has gotten more than 2 million views in two days.

According to Worst Previews, Morgan’s mother, Alicia Warden, owes approximately $25,000 on her Ohio home.  Morgan was going to help her out with it (he IS worth $18 Million), but when she allegedly spoke with the media behind his back, he retracted the offer, and is offering a $2,000 “one-shot deal” instead.

Asia, Morgan’s younger sister, really did not have anything nice to say about her brother, saying that “He’s never been a nice person,” and has only gotten worse with fame and fortune.

If Morgan’s mother does not make a minimum payment toward the mortgage by February 23rd, the lender will initiate foreclosure proceedings.

No matter which recently horrible Adam Sandler movie you were talking about, get ready to add one more to the list.  A few months ago, we heard that a CANDY LAND movie was in development, and now comes word that Adam Sandler is attached to star.

According to Worst Previews, Sandler and Robert Smigel will write the screenplay for the film as well.  Columbia Pictures, Happy Madison and Hasbro are all on board to produce, with ENCHANTED directed Kevin Lima attached to direct.  Columbia said in a statement:

“‘Candy Land’ is more than just a game. It is a brand that children, parents and grandparents know and love…The world of ‘Candy Land’ offers an extraordinary canvas upon which to create a fantastical, live-action family adventure film with a larger than life part for Adam.”

Yeah…I bet they said the same about “Battleship.”  *Cough*

During the Super Bowl, Acura is showing a new commercial featuring Jerry Seinfeld looking to become the first owner of their new Acura NSX (the car that Tony Stark has in THE AVENGERS).  And he’ll do anything for it…including bringing back the Soup Nazi.
