NBCUniversal (space omitted intentionally) is losing the peacock. At least as far as its parent company’s logo is concerned.
NBC Universal, which on Friday will be switching over to Comcast’s ownership from GE, will now become “NBCUniversal” without the space, the peacock or the globe silhouette you’re familiar with from the movies.
(I’m a little bummed! I liked all those things! But wait…)
The bird isn’t going away entirely… it will remain part of the brand of NBC the broadcaster - while the spinning globe will still be part of the graphic for Universal, the movie studio and theme park operator. (Confused yet?) But the company decided that the official company name shouldn’t favor one part of the business over the other. An ominous voice in a presentation to the company employees cited: “We aren’t a family of two favorite sons, rather one filled with talented people and companies all tied for first,”
So really, all those logos and icons we identify with are still going to be there. Just not on their paychecks and company letterhead. Unless it’s division specific letterhead. Now my own head is aching.
