POP COMMENTARY: I’m Not Surprised People Got Sick At The Playboy Mansion… I’m Surprised It Didn’t Happen SOONER.

Okay, first… let’s not act surprised that people came down with something at the Playboy Mansion. (Allegedly, that is.)  I’m guessing it’s not the first time people haven’t had to run and get a valtrex prescription or lice comb after an all too eventful visit to the place. (Not to mention the pool! – That has to be one heck of a petris dish!) So this event, which some people (who really have no scientific or medical credentials) are saying was due to bacteria in a contaminated fog machine … (really?) shouldn’t really be that shocking.

It’s imporant to note, by the way, that the Playboy Mansion people are understandably defending themselves, saying there is no way to prove that this is their fault, and that their DJ was right in the  middle of the fog and he’s fine.  (Not something they’ve likely ever had to say before… ‘the DJ is fine and he was standing in the fog’ defense.)

What does surprise me is how everyone found out that there was a problem: People starting posting their sicknesses as their status online!

The guests were attending a conference that culminated with an event at the iconic estate. Less than two days later, roughly attendees reported coming down with symptoms including fever, respiratory problems and violent headaches.
Victims reportedly started tweeting and posting their symptoms on Facebook and that’s when many noticed a trend.

Ewwwwww. I’m trying to understand when it is socially acceptable to tweet medical issues. That goodness intestinal issues weren’t a symptom, because I do not need people to be updating me on their regularity.

Still, it may not be the fault of Playboy Mansion at all. There was an event at the Fairmont Hotel on the first night of the conference, but understandably, that locale isn’t quite as well known for hot tubs and centerfolds, and a guy who has five girlfriends. So no one seems to be pointing their fatigued fingers at them.

In summary, we’ll probably never really know how they got sick. And if you’re ever at the Playboy Mansion, avoid the fog  machine, and don’t double dip. (I’m talking crudite here… but I think that advice is pretty sound no matter how you interpret it.)
