Sandler Beats Bieber By A Hair

In what has been the tightest box office race in recent memory (My recent memory, at least) Adam Sandler’s “Just Go With It” narrowly beat Justin Bieber’s “Never Say Never” at the box office this weekend. (As of posting time, at least!)

IMDB reports that the Sandler film took in 31 million dollars, while Bieber was hot on his tail, raking in 30.3 million.

The animated kid-pic “Gnomeo and Juliet” also had a respectable take, bringing in 25.5 million.

This is a success for Sandler, (his 11th number one film in his career) but it also marks a decline in his overall opening weekend performance compared to his prior films, says IMDB:

“Sandler’s last romantic comedy, 50 First Dates, notched $39.9 million in its Feb. 2004 opening weekend, or the equivalent of over $51 million adjusted for ticket price inflation (though it was bolstered by Presidents Day). Attendance was also down from Sandler’s prior February romantic comedy The Wedding Singer.
