Monday was supposed to be a special day for Lady Gaga and Amazon.com. Their one-day, 99-cent promotion of Lady Gaga’s album “Born This Way” was groundbreaking. At a full 11 dollars less than the price of buying it on iTunes, it seemed a win both for music lovers and the site itself.

But Amazon flooded. By early afternoon, the site’s servers were on a total meltdown, causing delays and customer angst.

Amazon went on Twitter guaranteeing that folks who ordered today would indeed get the discount price.

The problematic day is a setback for companies touting technology known as “cloud services” - software that makes all your music and data available on all your devices at any time. Many companies are banking on the technology being their entree into the next wave of the hi-tech market. As with any new tech product – getting early adopters onboard is crucial, and those that tried to download Gaga today unsuccessfully may be quick to dismiss the service.

At the end of the day, Lady Gaga is still winning – she’s once again making headlines for being in demand.
