Elton John to Make ROCKETMAN Biopic! David Furnish Speaks!

Elton John has basically done everything in the world of music. He has written hit album after hit album, created so many classic Disney songs ("Can You Feel the Love Tonight?", "Circle of Life"), and is the man behind two major Broadway plays. Elton John has basically done everything in the world of music.  He has written hit album after hit album, created so many classic Disney songs (“Can You Feel the Love Tonight?”, “Circle of Life”), and is the man behind two major Broadway plays.  And now, he is in talks to make a film about his life.

MSNBC is reporting that the film, aptly titled “Rocketman”, would be produced by John’s partner David Furnish and Steve Hamilton Shaw.  Playwright Lee Hall will provide the script, John will be the executive producer, and it is being rumored that James McAvoy (Professor X, himself) is being sought after for the lead.

However, with all that, when asked to comment, John’s London spokesman replied that there were only “just discussions.”

David Furnish just spoke to EW about the film, saying that now is the perfect time to make the film:

“We’ve always thought there was a wonderful cinematic opportunity to tell Elton’s life story…But we wanted to wait until the time was exactly right. Elton feels very excited about doing it now — he’s in a very happy place in life right now and thinks it’s a good time to artistically reflect on the past.

Furnish also said that while there were great memories in John’s life, there were also battles with drugs and alcohol, which will also be talked about:

”Elton has lived a very extraordinary and unique life…You can’t tell his life story without going to the dark places. We’re going to touch on those too. But at the end, we want people to come away from the cinema feeling inspired and uplifted.”

With a life that includes elements of a child piano-prodigy, a random pub piano player, and an estimated 250 million records sold, it will be one hell of a movie…
