14 year old Hailee Steinfeld grabbed worldwide attention when she gave a winning performance in the remake of True Grit. And not surprisingly, sponsorship opportunities were born. So why does this ad have Brits so up in arms that it’s banned in the U.K.?

It seems that in most cases, banned ads featuring teens are generally in connection with content that is too revealing or suggestive. But that is not the case with this Miu Miu ad.

Instead, the Britian’s media watchdog the Advertising Standards Authority received a concerned complaint that the Bruce Weber photo is “irresponsible” for suggesting youth suicide.

It seems the photo is a perfect storm of cues that Steinfeld is not just taking a rest on the track. She’s wiping her eye. (Crying? Depressed?) She’s siting on the track, (waiting for it to run her over?)

It seems a little ridiculous to me, but the ASA didn’t take the concerns lightly. they ended up banning the ad, claiming it breaks industry codes by showing a child in an unsafe location.

You know what’s unsafe? Wearing those heels on a rocky path. THAT’s unsafe. Why is she crying? Because those train tracks are CLEARLY going to leave a rust stain on that expensive skirt. THAT’s upsetting. Also that she probably paid too much for that outfit… that probably has her a little broken up too.
