Beyonce and Jay-Z Are Trademarking Blue Ivy’s Name

First, they reportedly took over a hospital floor. Then, daughter Blue Ivy became the youngest vocalist (I don't know if it's right to say singer...) to ever appear on Billboard's Top 100. And now, Beyonce and Jay-Z are planning to trademark Blue Ivy's name.

First, they reportedly took over a hospital floor.  Then, daughter Blue Ivy became the youngest vocalist (I don’t know if it’s right to say singer…) to ever appear on Billboard’s Top 100.  And now, Beyonce and Jay-Z are planning to trademark Blue Ivy’s name.

According to the Washington Post, the new parents filed for the trademark on Jan. 26, less than three weeks after Blue’s birth.  Speculation has already begun that the two may have a line of baby accoutrements in the offing and the motivation was business-related.

On the other hand, it could also just be a way to protect their month-old daughter’s name from any opportunists trying to make their own money on the name.  One fashion designer, Joseph Mbeh, submitted an application to trademark “Blue Ivy Carter NYC” on Jan. 11—just four days after the birth, while another filed to reserve “Blue Ivy Carter Glory IV” on Jan. 20 for a perfume line.  Both were denied.
