Man Does What We All Dream Of: Sues Movie Theater for Expensive Snacks

Expensive concession stands. Don't ya just want to tear them apart? I'm not going to pay $7 for a bottle of water! Hell, besides the occasional popcorn, I've been sneaking in my drink and snack for as long as I can remember! It's my way of getting back at them, and I have no problem with that!

Expensive concession stands.  Don’t ya just want to tear them apart?  I’m not going to pay $7 for a bottle of water!  Hell, besides the occasional popcorn, I’ve been sneaking in my drink and snack for as long as I can remember!  It’s my way of getting back at them, and I have no problem with that!

If you thought that was a bit dramatic, turns out one man from Detroit took the “getting back at them” part a step further…he decided to sue his theater!

According to Worst Previews, Joshua Thompson said that he used to take his own popcorn and candy to his local AMC theater, until the theater posted a sign banning the practice.  He was then forced to pay $8 for a Coke and a package of candy, nearly three times the $2.73 he paid at a nearby store for the same items.

So what does Thompson do?  He files a class action lawsuit against his local AMC theater in hopes of forcing theaters around the country to lower the price of snacks.

The suit accused AMC theaters of violating the Michigan Consumer Protection Act by charging grossly excessive prices for snacks, and seeks refunds for customers who were overcharged. Thompson’s lawyer says:

“He got tired of being taken advantage of…It’s hard to justify prices that are three- and four-times higher than anywhere else.”

Experts believe that the suit will be thrown out, but either way, this guy has guts.  And apparently a lot of time on his hands…but mostly guts…
