The passing of Whitney Houston practically guarantees that the upcoming film Sparkle will be a hit based on curiousity alone. Houston’s last film, Sparkle is a remake of the 1976 movie of the same name.

Based on the story of the Supremes, the original story centers on three singing teenage sisters from Harlem who form a girl group in the late 1950s – but this time the story is set in Detroit, Michigan in the 1960s during the Motown era.

The film has an all star cast – including Jordin Sparks, Derek Luke, Mike Epps, Cee Lo Green, Carmen Ejogo, Tika Sumpter, Vickie Winans and Omari Hardwick – but there’s little doubt that in every frame in which she appears, all eyes – and ears – will be on Houston.

Houston died on February 11, 2012, three months after filming ended – and the feature will will be dedicated to her memory. Sparke is currently set for release on August 17th, 2012.
