According to the New York Post, Tom Hanks is in talks to make his Broadway debut in “Lucky Guy”, Nora Ephron’s Broadway play about famed New York columnist Mike McAlary.

McAlary chronicled some of New York’s most notorious crime stories at the end of the 20th century, He died of colon cancer in 1998, just after winning the Pulitzer Prize for his coverage of the Abner Louima case.

Once a deal is finalized, the play is expected to premiere in January at the Shubert Theatre.

Back in 2010, Ephron conducted table-reads of an early script, “Stories About McAlary”, with Hugh Jackman playing the reporter. Last August, Dan Klores wrote another play about McAlary, called “The Wood”, which played off-Broadway.
