In what may be the worst-timed lawsuit in the history of mankind, a record label is suing the Beastie Boys for stealing music from one of their artists.
According to TMZ, TufAmerica claims MCA, Mike D and Ad-Rock ripped off the ’80s band Trouble Funk and illegally sampled their music on multiple songs featured on the albums “Licensed to Ill” and “Paul’s Boutique.”
The lawsuit, filed in federal court on May 3, just days before MCA’s death, says that a famous drum beat was sampled, along with certain riffs. TufAmerica claims it has “never received royalties or payment” for any of the songs, ever, despite the fact that the band was constantly re-releasing them.
No comment has been given by the Beastie Boys.
