Spielberg Reverses Film Changes For E.T. Blu Ray Release

It seems like Steven Spielberg has learned from his mistakes…

When E.T.: THE EXTRA-TERRESTRIAL was re-released in theaters about a decade ago, Spielberg decided to make a little, somewhat obvious change: replace all government agent guns with walkie-talkies.  While it wasn’t anything drastic, fans were not happy with the digital alteration that George Lucas seemed to have made mainstream.

Well now, according to Joblo, Spielberg has changed the film back to its original version for the upcoming blu ray release.  No more walkie-talkies…just guns.

No word on why Spielberg made the change, but if you want any hint, refer back to this quotation when he was asked about the practice:

“For myself, I tried [changing a film] once and lived to regret it. Not because of fan outrage, but because I was disappointed in myself. I got overly sensitive to [some of the reaction] to E.T., and I thought if technology evolved, [I might go in and change some things]…it was OK for a while, but I realized what I had done was I had robbed people who loved E.T. of their memories of E.T.” .

E.T.: THE EXTRA TERRESTRIAL hits BluRay shelves this Fall.
