Madonna’s Rep Speaks Out, Says Short Show Was Meant to “Honor” The French
After all the controversy she has caused over the past week, Madonna has finally given her side of the story…and it turns out that she (supposedly) had good intentions all along…
According to NBC, Madonna spokeswoman, Liz Rosenberg, said that the Material Girl’s last-minute concert at Paris’ Olympia was never meant to be a full show, but one of a handful of “club dates” that, in the past, “were never more than 45 minutes.”
The short concert, which was also streamed on YouTube, was ironically enough added to promote tolerance, after the singer was threatened by French right-wing politician Marine Le Pen, after she screened a video featuring a photo of Le Pen’s face with a swastika superimposed on it. It instead ended with unsatisfied fans booing and screaming for refunds after waiting outside for days and spending the equivalent of hundreds of dollars on tickets.
Rosenberg said that the show, which cost almost $1 million to produce and involved a “tremendous effort” to keep ticket prices at a “reasonable” range, was specifically added “to honor her love for French artists, French cinema and a tribute to France’s long history of welcoming and inspiring artists, authors, painters, poets and minorities from other countries over the years.”
Rosenberg added that the show was “planned as a heartfelt thank you to France…And by the way, she put on a fabulous show which was streamed for millions of fans around the world.”
