THE HOBBIT PART 3 Gets a Release Date and Name Change

The third film for THE HOBBIT has been officially announced with a release date and a name change.

In July, Peter Jackson, and Warner Bros, revealed that THE HOBBIT films would be in three parts instead of two. Now, we’re finally getting word on not only the release date of the third film, but a name switch as well.

The Hollywood Reporter has revealed that the second film in Peter Jackson’s new trilogy will now be called THE HOBBIT: THE DESOLATION OF SMAUG and will be released on December 13, 2013.  Just seven months later on June 18, 2014, the third entry, titled THE HOBBIT: THERE AND BACK AGAIN (the previous title of the second entry) will hit theaters.

Warner Brothers said in a statement that the decision to make the third movie come out seven months after the seconded was an easy choice:

“Opening in July affords us not only the perfect summer tentpole, but fans will have less time to wait for the finale of this epic adventure.”

What do you think of the new name and the fact that we are getting a trilogy for THE HOBBIT?
