Beyonce Was Lip Synching. But At Least She Was Lip Synching Her Own Awesome Voice
This isn’t exactly a Milli Vanilli level scandal. No matter how you slice it, Beyonce sounded great. At least she wasn’t auto-tuned. But yes, she was lip-synching herself during her performance of The Star Spangled Banner at President Obama’s inauguration.
Kristin DuBois, a rep for the United States Marine Band says: “All music is pre-recorded for the ceremony because there are so many eventualities and conditions that day… We performed, live, the band. But we received last-minute word that Beyonce was going to use the pre-recorded vocal track. Those were the instructions we were given. We don’t know what the reason why.”
Would it have been nice if she sang live? Yeah, it would have. But it doesn’t really bother me. She sounded spectacular in her studio recording too. We’ve seen this sort of thing before. Whitney Houston did it at the Super Bowl. Britney Spears does it everywhere. (I like to imagine that even in the shower Britney has the music piped in for her to mouth the words. That’s what I like to imagine.) I”m comfortable with it.
