If you were skeptical about STAR WARS: EPISODE VII, it’s time to believe…

After months of speculation over who would take the directing reigns, The Wrap, Deadline and The Hollywood Reporter have confirmed thatJJ Abrams has officially signed on to helm the newest STAR WARS entry.

The report, released earlier today, originally came with a huge grain of salt, especially since Abrams was quoted in November saying that taking on such a role would be a huge burden for anyone:

“I frankly feel that – I almost feel that, in a weird way, the opportunity for whomever it is to direct that movie, it comes with the burden of being that kind of iconic movie and series. I was never a big ‘Star Trek’ fan growing up, so for me, working on ‘Star Trek’ didn’t have any of that, you know, almost fatal sacrilege, and so, I am looking forward more than anyone to the next iterations of ‘Star Wars,’ but I believe I will be going as a paying moviegoer!”

But what does that mean for Abrams’ other massively successful space reboot, STAR TREK?  Many are speculating that the 46-year-old director will have to choose his poison soon enough.  (Hell, if you can’t have someone work on both Marvel and DC movies/Dreamworks and Pixar, etc, Star Trek and Star Wars is out of the question).

No word yet on what moves will be made to accommodate Abrams for both franchises, but as of now, I think it’s safe to say we can forget the Empire, the Republic, and Starfleet…

Abrams is justifiably the master of the galaxy…
