If you could see me right now you would see that I am doing my “I told you so” dance. As previously discussed (here), we are highly anticipating the release of Janelle Monáe’s new visual album, Dirty Computer, and I told you it looked and sounded amazing. Well the proof is in the pudding, because Monáe dropped the first two singles from the album today and they are both certified jams. “Make Me Feel” brings forth a retro vibe with a Prince-ish sound. The music video encapsulates the feel of the song perfectly with the wardrobe and setting nodding to the 90’s, but still representing the future funk. “Django Jane” has the funktress showing off her rapping abilities, with the music video continuing the theme of afro-futurism. From these two singles it is fair to say that the album will be varied and full of surprises. Take a listen to what I am sure will start your “Monáe All Dáy” playlist!
