FIRST LOOK!: Sneak Peek Into New Pixar Short “Bao”

As if we weren’t already excited for The Incredibles 2 hitting theaters this summer, Pixar just released some adorably exciting details about the animated short that will air before the feature film. The official synopsis for “Bao” is:

“An aging Chinese mom suffering from empty nest syndrome gets another chance at motherhood when one of her dumplings springs to life as a lively, giggly dumpling boy. But Dumpling starts growing up fast, and Mom must come to the bittersweet revelation that nothing stays cute and small forever.”

I’ve definitely felt pregnant after leaving a dumpling house, so I think I am the key demographic for this one. Lee Unkrich, director of Coco and Toy Story 3, unveiled a snapshot from the short, as well as some early renderings of the anthropomorphized dumpling on Twitter yesterday. He also informed us that the short is directed by Domee Shi, making this the first Pixar short directed by a woman. The inclusion of Asian culture into mainstream media, along with the news of a female director, has the internet jumping for joy. Grab the tissues because something tells me this one’s gonna make you emotional…..and maybe hungry. Take a look at the images below, and catch The Incredibles 2 on June 15th!
