B’WAY BUZZ: Lin-Manuel Miranda’s Latest #Hamildrop Brings The Best Kind Of ‘Burn’

As a chubby, helmet haired, gapped tooth, elementary school student I felt an odd, yet special, connection to the Spice Girls. Every time I saw those 5 ladies up on a stage, in their coordinating outfits, singing about girl power, I felt as if I were part of a movement. Now you are probably thinking “what the heck do the Spice Girls and Hamilton have in common?!” To which I say, never interrupt me…Where was I?

Creative superstar, Lin-Manuel Miranda released this month’s #Hamildrop earlier today and it is fire. “First Burn” is the original draft of the song “Burn” which Miranda wrote for the mega Broadway hit, Hamilton. Imagine how thrilled my inner fourth grader was when he discovered that Miranda chose to release this song with 5 different Eliza’s at the mic. My affinity for 5 powerful women dropping some strong lyrics lives on! The 5 Eliza’s to cover this number are Arianna Afsar, Julia Harriman, Lexi Lawson, Rachelle Ann Go, and Shoba Narayan. In regards to this version Miranda tweeted “I wrote the FIRST draft of Burn in 2014. It’s different, but it’s a mood.” Well I can assure you that different is GOOD!

Every month Miranda releases new Hamilton-related content as a part of his #Hamildrop series. For last month’s drop, click here. For next month’s, stay tuned! In the meantime, check out the official video for the amazing “First Burn” below!
