Mercury’s Retrograde will still have our technology on the fritz and our communication failing for two more days, but the rest of the planets must be making up for Mercury’s annoying self because we have been blessed with some amazing, new music this week! You won’t win this time Mercury! As you prepare your weekend plans, be it a stroll through the park, a turn up at the club, or a vomit outside of your favorite bottomless brunch spot, you are going to want at least one of these songs to be the coordinating soundtrack.
The quintet is nails it again with this Ed Sheerhan cover. The simplicity of the song only magnifies the groups unbelievable vocal abilities. It’s also fun to see Kevin showing off yet another ability as he makes us swoon with that cello.
Florence and The Machine – Sky Full Of Song
It has been 3 years since the indie rock band has released an album, and it seems like they are eager to dive back in with this one. The smooth sound of Florence Welch’s voice echoes through this song reminding us of what we have been missing. The group’s artistry is only magnified by the black and white music video. There are rumors of a 4th studio album entitled As High As Hope being released as soon as June 2018.
Zayn – Let Me
Did you just hear the squeal of a teenage girl? Ok that wasn’t a teenage girl, it was me. Never the less, former One Direction bandmate released his latest single earlier this week and it has immediately blazed up the charts. The video is raising eyebrows as the singer’s love interest looks a lot like Gigi Hadid….the same Gigi Hadid that Malik was in a relationship with for years. Oh, and there’s an intense fight scene in the video which only turns the puddle of drool into a full blown river…
The Weeknd – Call Out My Name
This is the one to put you in the feels…to avoid a drunken sob-fest, do not mix this song with those brunch cocktails. The lyrics of this song have many fans thinking this song was written about the relationship The Weeknd had with Selena Gomez. “I said I didn’t feel nothing baby, but I lied/I almost cut a piece of myself for your life/Guess I was just another pit stop/’Til you made up your mind/You just wasted my time” may allude to the singer’s willingness to give Gomez a kidney when her illness required her to have a transplant. Either way, this smooth jam is definitely good for some easy listening this weekend.
Nicki Minaj – Barbie Tingz & Chun Li
The KWEEN is back! Nicki Minaj has been relatively quiet since her 2014 album Pinkprint, and fans have been itching for some new stuff. Well she has not disappointed with the release of TWO singles this week. The songs give fans exactly what they want from Minaj, which are killer lyrics jam packed with personality. It’ll be fun to see what the rap queen brings us next!
With the air finally feeling like spring, it will be great to pep up that step with some jams in the headphones.
