TV BUZZ: ‘Brookyn Nine-Nine Lives To See Another Season…On A Different Network

Just two days ago it was announced that FOX decided to cancel Brooklyn Nine-Nine (amongst a slew of other shows) after it’s 5th season. Fans flew into outrage and took to social media pleading with networks to pick up the series for at least 1 more season. We have seen this work before with shows like The Mindy Project getting an additional three seasons on Hulu after it’s cancellation from FOX. Thanks to the power of social media, NBC was quick to snatch up the series and will air 13 episodes for comedy’s sixth season. NBC is a powerhouse, so you might be thinking it a bit strange that such a heavy hitter would pick up a series with five seasons already under it’s belt. The reasoning behind the speedy turnaround is because the series initially belonged to NBC, but was regretfully sold to FOX. Chairman of NBC Entertainment, Robert Greenblatt, said in a statement:

“Ever since we sold this show to Fox I’ve regretted letting it get away, and it’s high time it came back to its rightful home. Mike Schur, Dan Goor and Andy Samberg grew up on NBC, and we’re all thrilled that one of the smartest, funniest, and best-cast comedies in a long time will take its place in our comedy lineup. I speak for everyone at NBC, here’s to the Nine-Nine!”

Star of the show, Andy Samberg thanked fans for support via twitter saying “Thank you to everyone for the crazy outpouring of support. It means the world to us. It wouldn’t have happened without you.”

I am sure the cast crew is celebrating today with just as much excitement as fans. To catch the season 5 final, tune into FOX on May 20th at 8:30pm EST.
