After the release of “This Is America,” I think it is fair to say that Childish Gambino (aka Donald Glover) creates works of art with his music videos. Today, the hip-hop artist released a video for “Feels Like Summer,” and once again thoughtful masterpiece was created.
In the animated video, a cartoon Childish Gambino is seen walking throughout a neighborhood while listening to music. Along his walk he encounters several people of the neighborhood, all of which are key players in the hip-hop community. Knowing that Childish Gambino uses his work as a way to convey a message, no interactions with or between the animated artists is accidental. In one instance, Kanye West is seen wearing a “MAGA” hat only to then be comforted by Michelle Obama. Nicki Minaj and Travis Scott are seen playing with building blocks on the front lawn…like children. They have recently been feuding over the validity of record sales. Dr Dre, Diddy, Snoop Dogg, Wiz Khalifa, and Jay-Z all dance while Gucci Mane sun tans, which some on social media are interpreting as a depiction of the contrast in struggle on the way to the top. Those are just a few of the cameos that appear in this video.
The whole video is thought provoking and many are praising it’s artistry. The song brings the feeling of a dwindling summer as well with its easy beat and smooth moving lyrics. Take a look at the video below and see how you interpret of all the celebrity cameos!
