After last weekend’s box office success, it’s clear that a movie star was born but is a Broadway star next?
In case you missed it, Lady Gaga has won over critics and fans alike with her leading role in the film A Star Is Born which is a role last performed by Barbra Streisand in the 1976 rendition of the film. Well it’s possible that Gaga could be chasing down another dream role made famous by Streisand but this time it would be on the Great White Way. According to reports, Gaga could be playing the iconic Fanny Brice in Funny Girl.
All of this hubbub started when Rosie O’Donnell appeared on Randy Rainbow’s show and revealed that not only is a revival in the works but Lady Gaga is slated to play her daughter aka FANNY BRICE. Here’s the tweet that nearly caused Broadway to burst today:
Rosie O’Donnell just said on stage that Lady Gaga will play Funny Girl on Broadway and she’ll play her mother.

While none of this has been confirmed yet, I am completely wrapped up in this idea. I am pretty sure Lady Gaga is gunning for EGOT status and I say the GOAT might as well be an EGOT. The story of Funny Girl follows Fanny Brice as she rises to fame as a successful comedienne. While her star soars, her love life takes a tumble and she is forced to take a hard look at her relationship. Barbra Streisand originated the role on Broadway back in 1964 and has become synonymous with the show.
Only time will tell if this theater dream comes true!
