‘Jeopardy’ Contestant Hilariously Confuses Chaka Khan With African Royalty

Sadly, the “Queen Of Funk” is not a title recognized as actual royalty.

Remember being in middle school and the teacher asking a question you just swore you knew so your shot your hand up like a rocket and confidently projected your answer to the whole class only to have it be completely wrong? Well Sarah Jett Rayburn, a contestant on last night’s Jeopardy, knows exactly how that feels except instead of thirty twelve-year-olds giggling at her she has the entire internet laughing at her gaffe.

During the episode, the Texan writer/stay-at-home mom chose a $2000 clue which read: “Here, as on each September 24, Zulus celebrate the holiday that was named in honor of this warrior leader of the early 1800s.” Now to be fair I don’t know many people who are versed enough in African history to have answered this correctly but I do know most of us probably wouldn’t have given the answer Rayburn gave…”who is Chaka Khan?”

In an all too relatable moment, Rayburn realizes her mistake and throws up her hands as if to say “What the funk was I thinking…?” The correct response was Shaka Zulu (sometimes spelled Chaka Zulu), the great warrior leader and most certainly not Chaka Khan…the every woman. Don’t feel too bad for Rayburn though, she ended up winning the night and brought her two-day total to $39,400. Could build a whole Chaka Khan shrine with those earnings.
