Paul Reubens To Receive Visionary Award
This weekend Paul Reubens is getting some long overdue lovin’. The man behind Pee Wee Herman will be given the Visionary Award at Spike TV’s Scream Awards 2011 ceremony in Los Angeles. (Leave it to Spike not to be afraid of keeping his scandal in the past!)
Other stars in attendance are Quentin Tarantino, Mark Wahlberg, Bradley Cooper, Kate Beckinsale, Robert Downey Junior and Nic Cage. Reubens will be given the special award for Pee-wee Herman’s contribution to entertainment. (He began doing the character in 1978.)
According to USATODAY, Reuben says: “If Pee-wee were giving this quote, I think he’d scream out ‘I’m a visionary! I’m a visionary!’ and then run to the dictionary to look up what visionary means. But I know what it means, and I am profoundly grateful and honored …”
Of course, Reubens is one of the unlucky people that always has ONE BIG MOMENT from their life mentioned in virtually every news story about them. And, um, you know, back in 1991 he was accused of getting a little too affectionate with himself in an adult theater. It’s nice to see that whatever happened that night, he’s being recognized for his work in tv and film.
The awards will air on Tuesday at 9 p.m. on Spike and VH1 and VH1 Classic.
