THE GIRL WITH THE DRAGON TATTOO Sequel In Devlopment
After disappointing box office success for David Fincher’s THE GIRL WITH THE DRAGON TATTOO, many wondered whether or not Sony would still be developing a sequel.
Well now, Entertainment Weekly has gotten word that Sony will go ahead and produce THE GIRL WHO PLAYED WITH FIRE.
In a statement to the magazine, the studio says,
“[‘Dragon Tattoo’] continues to do strong business and nothing has changed with respect to development of the nextbook, [called ‘The Girl Who Played With Fire’].”
THE GIRL WITH THE DRAGON TATTOO has grossed only $60 million on a $90 million budget.  It is based on the first novel of a best selling trilogy by Stieg Larsson.
Back in November, Sony Pictures co-chairman Amy Pascal said that the sequel was guaranteed, with a targeted release date of late 2013. The studio says that DRAGON TATTOO screenwriter, Steven Zaillian,  is currently working on the script.
While Daniel Craig and Rooney Mara are already signed on for the rest of the trilogy, it is now only on Fincher to see if he’ll return.
