Chynna Phillips’ Shocking Revelation: Dancing With The Stars Is “A Popularity Contest.” - POP GOES THE WEEK!!

Chynna Phillips’ Shocking Revelation: Dancing With The Stars Is “A Popularity Contest.”

She wouldn't be complaining if she were more popular. Despite working in show business, which is, news flash - A POPULARITY CONTEST, Chynna Phillips is shocked and saddened to learn, and now ready to tell the world - that Dancing With The Stars is a POPULARITY CONTEST.

She wouldn’t be complaining if she were more popular. Despite working in show business, which is, news flash – A POPULARITY CONTEST, Chynna Phillips is shocked and saddened to learn, and now ready to tell the world – that Dancing With The Stars is a POPULARITY CONTEST.

After getting the boot from Dancing With the Stars on Tuesday night, Phillips says the show is not really about dancing.

“It really does come down to the votes,” Phillips told The Huffington Post. “And that’s kind of sad because it’s supposed to be a dance competition, but it’s actually a popularity contest, which makes me kind of sad.”

I acknowledge that it is unfortunate that sometimes the best dancers don’t move along in the series, but the role of the show’s judges is to help the legitimacy of the dancing even out some. And, our pal Brooke Burke reminds viewers every round that it’s all about votes… are we supposed to be surprised by the Phillips’ revelation?

But Phillips wasn’t done saying her piece. “You know, you have to have a little bit of faith that there are people out there who are truly voting for their favorite dance, not their favorite person, because it is a dance competition and people are working really hard. It would be very sad if that was undermined, and it looks to me like that keeps getting undermined.”

In truth, I don’t totally disagree with her. But the initial weeks of the show truly are about building viewership, and as the show progresses, the judges increase the level of scrutiny, skewing the scores as much as they can towards the more talented dancers. You’ll see more of that in the weeks ahead.

In the meantime, I asked that Chynna hold on and she’ll be fine.
