“White Collar” Star Matt Bomer Nonchalantly Reveals He’s Gay
Matt Bomer, star of USA Network’s “White Collar,” nonchalantly acknowledged his male partner while receiving an award. But the casual mention has gotten plenty of press attention and accolades.
The 34-year-old actor was accepting the New Generation Arts and Activism Award on Sunday for his work to combat HIV/AIDS. When he took to the podium, he mentioned his family.
“I’d really especially like to thank my beautiful family: Simon, Kit, Walker, Henry…Thank you for teaching me what unconditional love is. You will always be my proudest accomplishment.”
“Simon”has been identified as his partner and publicist Simon Halls. Bomer has since been applauded by GLAAD, his fans, and many other luminaries in the entertainment industry.
The actor will portray a gay activist in an upcoming film.
While many a celebrity has deliberately hidden their sexuality, or in other cases come out of the closet with the fanfare of magazine cover or series of interviews, Bomer’s subtle admission could be the new wave of celebrities that approach the public perception of themselves as someone who just ‘happens to be gay.’
Back in 2007, actress Jodie Foster, who had often been hounded by gay activist groups to clarify her personal life, chose to out herself in a similarly subtle manner. After winning an award at a Women in Entertainment breakfast, she thanked “my beautiful Cydney, ” her longtime partner.
Star Trek actor Zachary Quinto casually described himself as a gay man in a magazine interview that was devoted to his work as a whole, not solely on his sexuality.
Congratulations to Bomer on his many successes.
