A new report claims that American Idol judges Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler, who recently announced they were stepping down as judges, didn’t quit – they were fired.

Even though the two, who had only served on the judging panel for one year – told the world it was time to move on, TheWrap reports that Lopez was let go after FOX balked at her demand for a $2 million raise on top of her already staggering reported $15 million salary. The ratings, which have been fledgling, apparently did not warrant the bump in the network’s eyes.

Just days ago Lopez told Ryan Seacrest that she was getting out of the gig to pay more attention to her music and movie career and enjoy more personal time. She is newly single after her split from one-time husband Marc Anthony.

Tyler released a statement announcing he wanted to focus on Aerosmith and get back to rock and roll.

The source told TheWrap that Fox in fact wants to reboot the show, creating an “American Idol  2.0″ of sorts. It remains to be seen what will become of Randy Jackson, although Ryan Seacrest will remain as the host of the competition show.
