META’s Language Translation Is Unbelievable

Instagram users who sign up to use Meta Ai have a remarkable – and admittedly, slightly unnerving – tool at their disposal.

As demonstrated in my (@BrianBalthazar )’s post below, a post about jobs I once applied to years ago, meta Ai is able to take that post and make it available in different languages, almost instantly. Seems simple enough, right? It’s so much more than that.

Not only does the ai translate the script into Hindi, Spanish or Portugesse, but it takes the sample of my voice from the post and creates a real time recreation of the post with my lips and mouth  moving to the translated language’s words. It even takes the audio sample and makes my voice sound like I’m speaking these languages in the proper accent and dialect. (Commonly referred to as ‘voice cloning.’

The translation tools are free for Facebook users with at least 1,000 followers and for all public Instagram accounts in countries where Meta AI is available. By enabling the function, creators open up the possbility of far great reach for their content, and people around the world will have access to a larger collection of content and ideas.

Concern over Ai’s ability to replicate likenesses and voices has been a concern since the technology was first demonstrated. The ability to do so this quickly and accurately is remarkable and will do little to calm the concerns of those critics. But as a tool for education it’s difficult to ignore the effectiveness and the possible positive uses.
