Freddie Highmore Cast To Play A Young Norman Bates In A&E Series
Reboots and prequels and sequels have been all the rage in Hollywood the past few years, and let’s face it…most are just not good. Yet, somehow, the new PSYCHO prequel series from A&E, “Bates Motel” seems like it may just break the mold and create something with a bit of potential…
Joblo is reporting that the show has cast its Norman Bates: CHARLIE AND THE CHOCOLATE FACTORY star Freddie Highmore. The kid is all grown up, and at 20-years-old, you could even see the resemblance between him and a young Anthony Perkins.
The show, which “examines the twisted relationship between serial killer-to-be Norman Bates and his mother Norma,” has already cast DEPARTED star Vera Farmiga as Norman’s emotionally abusive mother. While the shoes may be big ones to fill, something tells me we might just have one hell of a horror series to accompany “American Horror Story” in the ranks next year…
A&E has ordered the first 10 episodes of “Bates Motel”. They will hit airwaves sometime in 2013.
After seeing the photos of Freddie Highmore and Anthony Perkins side by side, there is clearly a resemblance. Combined with his acting talent, I think he’ll make the perfect Norman Bates. I have a similar mindset regarding prequels, but a co-worker at DISH told me of the premise for this show and I had hope. With so many amazing actors involved I think this has potential to be amazing, I will definitely be adding it to the list of shows I record on my Hopper. With my late work schedule, the 2,000 hours allow me to spend my weekends as a total couch potato. Psycho is one of my all time favorite movies; I can’t wait to see how his twisted relationship with his mother resulted in him becoming one of cinemas most infamous serial killers.
