Is “Downton Abbey” Getting a Prequel Spinoff?

“Downton Abbey” fans, get ready…you might just have a series spinoff to add to your television watching schedule.

Speaking at a British Academy Film and Television Academy screenwriters’ lecture, Oscar winning “Abbey” writer Julian Fellowes announced that he is planning to write a prequel to the hit show that would tell the story of how the Earl and Countess of Grantham (Hugh Bonneville and Elizabeth McGovern) first met.

But don’t get too excited…Fellowes said that if his idea does come to fruition, it would probably be broadcast after the end of “Downton Abbey,” because, “I don’t think you can continue a narrative in more than one area at once.”
