In the midst of great tragedy and devastation, even a short reprieve is a welcome thing. Last night those who let themselves escape for just a few moments, were treated to one of the most special performances in 16 seasons of DWTS.
In what was dubbed a “Supersized Freestyle,” Derek Hough instead chose to choreograph a routine with no bells and whistles other than his partner Kellie Pickler’s raw talent and emotion. Bruno said it was a “dance of spellbinding beauty.” The routine brought Len to his feet, and Carrie Ann to tears.
Watch the Dance of the Season here:
All the stars turned in top-notch performances, tackling 3 separate dances each. In addition to the freestyle, they also did a judges’ choice number, and took part in a cha-cha “relay.” Zendaya and Val actually came out on top of the leader board with a well-deserved, perfect combined score of 65. Kellie and Derek were just behind with a 64, but I have a feeling they will be taking home that mirror ball trophy in tonight’s results show.
The finale of DWTS airs tonight at 9:00, on ABC.
