Jerry Springer has joined a short list of TV veterans to reach the 25 year mark for his show. (Among them, Carson, Donahue, Larry King… and Captain Kangaroo.)

The former news anchor turned Mayor of Cinncinnati turned TV icon has lots to say about show business, politics and his storied life.

I’d love for you to watch THE WHOLE INTERVIEW, but here are two of my favorite moments from the chat.

ON THE SURPRISING THING EACH GUEST MUST DO BEFORE BEING ON THE JERRY SPRINGER SHOW:

“If there’s going to be a surprise on the show, the guests, before the show, are given a list of the possible surprises. 21 possible surprises. And they have to check ‘ok’ to all of the possibilities. And if there’s one they can’t live with, like ‘i don’t want to find out my girlfriend was really a guy at one point’ or whatever, if you don’t want to hear that on television, that’s fine. You tell us, and then either you’re not on the show, or – of course, if then you’re not on the show then you know that was the one – but we’re not out to – no one wants to hurt anybody on this show. It’s all voluntary.”

ON DONALD TRUMP:

“What we do is show business but America is serious business. And if you wanna run the country and be leader of the free world and all that kind of stuff, what are we thinking? So you can like Donald Trump personally, that’s your own business. But President of the United States? I mean this is outrageous. It’s outrageous… He has no business being President and I say that with all due respect.”
