As the promos for Simon Cowell’s show “The X Factor” are unveiled, Cowell has opened up to Entertainment Weekly about just how much he does (and doesn’t) watch American Idol… the answer? Not a whole lot!
Says Cowell, according to EW:
“I haven’t seen a full episode,” the former Idol judge told reporters on a conference call for his upcoming music competition series, The X Factor. “I’ve seen three minutes of a recap. From what I’ve seen and from what I’ve heard, it all seems to be going well. What I was more concerned about [was] the ratings falling off a cliff, and that the whole genre might be over. But people are still excited about these shows, whether Dancing With the Stars, which has gotten better over the years, America’s Got Talent… I think they’ve done a good job.”
As he finalizes the judging panel on “Factor,” he danced around whether Idol alum Paula Abdul might be a viable option.
“I’m a massive fan of Paula,” he said. “We’ve been in regular contact. I’m not going to say today who we are going to confirm or not, because the truth is we haven’t made up our minds up yet…. It comes down to who I think is interesting, and the commitment and the expertise each person offers.”
