MTV Pulls SKINS Off The Air!
Even though the British version of the series is an enormous hit, MTV is stripping their US version of its racy series “Skins” from the network’s lineup.
The network had faced harsh criticism when the show debuted – not surprisingly, given that it featured teens in sexual situations and engaging in behavior that watchdog groups (and many parents) found too racy for TV. At the time of the backlash, MTV stood by the show, and in their press release today, again defended the content, chalking up the cancellation to poor ratings.
“Skins is a global television phenomenon that, unfortunately, didn’t connect with a US audience as much as we had hoped. We admire the work that the series’ creator Bryan Elsley did in adapting the show for MTV, and appreciate the core audience that embraced it.”
The series premiered with impressive numbers, but after initial airings saw a sharp decline. It never made it to a second season.
