MTV Video Music Awards Will Have No Host, WILL Have Tony Bennett Tribute to Amy Winehouse

And the coveted position of Host for MTV’s Video Music Awards this year is…..

Nobody!

That’s right!  Despite Amy Doyle, MTV’s VP for Music and Talent and executive producer for the show, recently saying that the host decision was “going down to the wire,” Billboard has confirmed that there will be no set host at all!

While Chelsea Handler and Russell Brand not returning, what we WILL have are eight musical performances, including a tribute to Britney Spears, as well as the late Amy Winehouse.

Legendary singer Tony Bennett will return to the VMAs for the first time since 1993 to pay homage to the late singer,

Bennett, who recorded “Body and Soul” with Winehouse for his “Duets II” album, will introduce video footage from their March recording session in London, as well as additional performers who have yet to be announced. (It’s rumored that Adele and Lady Gaga may be involved.)

Bennett said in a statement:

“It was a thrill to record with Amy Winehouse…When you listen to the recording of ‘Body and Soul,’ it is a testament to her artistic genius and her brilliance as one of the most honest musicians I have ever known.”

Winehouse’s father, Mitch, also thanked Bennett and the VMAs for their touching tribute, saying in a statement that her “family is honored that the VMAs are giving Amy this wonderful tribute. We know that Amy’s performance of ‘Rehab’ at the MTV Movie Awards played an important part in Amy’s worldwide success.”

Proceeds from the track will go to the Amy Winehouse Foundation.  The Video Music Awards will air this Sunday.

  • VMA will finally add some class to the show with Mr. Bennett. Adele sounds good as well.
