Early Paul McCartney Audition Letter to Drummer for The Beatles Discovered at Yard Sale

Somewhere out there in the universe, there is a guy who could have been the drummer for the Beatles…at least according to a newly found audition letter written by Paul McCartney.

According to MSNBC, the newly discovered letter was found folded in a book at a Liverpool yard sale.  It was addressed to a mystery drummer on August 12, 1960, and offered him a chance to audition for the band right before they left for a two-month gig in Hamburg, Germany.

The letter, handwritten by McCartney, who was then playing guitar while Stuart Sutcliffe played bass, offered the drummer an audition, and said if he joins the band, he must be ready to travel almost immediately to Hamburg.

The letter is signed, “Yours sincerely, Paul McCartney of the BEATLES.”

It isn’t know if the drummer actually responded or came for an audition, and experts are certain that the letter was not addressed to Ringo Starr.

The letter will be auctioned next month by Christie’s, who says it will likely draw more than 7,000 pounds ($11,000) when it is sold on November 15.

McCartney, who is on his honeymoon, has not been contacted yet about the letter.
