Amy Winehouse may no longer be with us, but luckily for fans, there are still several unreleased recordings left to give us a glimpse into her creative mind.
According to Access Hollywood, a new album of recordings by Winehouse will be released next month by Island Records.
“Lioness: Hidden Treasures” will contain a mix of previously unreleased tracks as well as alternative versions of existing hits. A total of 12 new songs will be on the record.
Island Records said that Winehouse’s longtime musical partners Mark Ronson and Salaam Remi have been listening to the recordings since her death, and the two realized that they had “a collection of songs that deserved to be heard, a collection of songs that were a fitting testament to Amy the artist and, as importantly, Amy their friend.”
For anyone nervous about the label just trying to make money off of Winehouse’s death, rest assured that the release was encouraged by her family, especally her father, Mitch Winehouse, who said in the statement:
“If the family had felt that this album wasn’t up to the standard of ‘Frank’ and ‘Back To Black’ we would never have agreed to release it and we believe it will stand as a fitting tribute to Amy’s musical legacy.”
The album will be released on December 5, and will include Winehouse’s final studio recording of “Body and Soul” with Tony Bennett. A donation of 1 pound ($1.60) from the sale of each album in the U.K. will go to a foundation to assist disadvantaged children and young adults.
We can’t wait for Dec. 5th.!!!!!!!
