Diana Ross has been nominated for a Grammy Award at least a dozen times… but has never won. POP goes The Week has learned that Ross herself had been somewhat tortured by the losing streak.  Now, the Recording Academy will honor her for a lifetime of work.

Ross will be joined by Glen Campbell and the late Apple co-founder Steve Jobs will receive lifetime achievement awards.

A source that wished to remain anonymous told POPgoesTheWeek! that Ross had long hoped to receive the lifetime achievement award, but stayed mum about it. ‘She refused to campaign for it,’ says the source. ‘The reality is a lot of artists would (campaign for it) but she simply won’t do that. She wanted the recording academy to want her to have it. She didn’t want to have to ask, but she’s been hoping for this for a long time.’

Ross, 67, achieved early success with the Supremes and went on to a solo career that led her to 18 number one records in the US.

The 54th Grammy awards will take place in Los Angeles in February.
