Fans of HBO’s “Game of Thrones”, get ready…winter will be lasting for quite some time.

HBO programming president, Michael Lombardo, announced the renewal yesterday, saying that there was no other choice after the audience response of second season opener:

“Series creators David Benioff and D.B. Weiss raised our expectations for the second season – and then surpassed them…We are thrilled by all the viewer and media support we’ve received for the series, and can’t wait to see what Dan and David have in store for next season.”

Entertainment Weekly is reporting that the Thrones return was marked by 3.9 million viewers, up a massive 74 percent from its series debut.  Including all three Sunday airings, the show delivered 6.3 million viewers.

You can catch season 2 of “Game of Thrones” every Sunday night at 9PM on HBO.
