SPOILER ALERT: Will Clark Gregg Return For THE AVENGERS 2?!

Okay, you asked for it…

I think we all cried a little inside when SHIELD agent Phil Coulson was killed in THE AVENGERS.  But does that mean that he can’t come back?

Clark Gregg, the man behind the beautifully sarcastic agent, was recently asked about his character’s death and the rumor that he may return as the part-android character Vision. Some people were excited by the prospect, some were disappointed.  For Gregg, while Vision is cool, it just doesn’t seem like a viable option:

“Vision is cool. But I would hate to be any AI life form…If I got to come back, I would need to still be somebody who could wisecrack, because my favorite part of the job was that if anybody was going to tease anybody about their diva superhero outfit or whatever, it would be me.”

While it would be awesome to see Phil Coulson in RoboCop mode, it would be sad to see him lose the humor that made him.

Gregg added that if he is never brought back, he’s at least happy with the way his character turned out and understands that his death was important to “ground the movie in some real emotion and stakes.”
